A Few Simple Truths

The Way Things Are!
Corporate jets are efficient transportation and time savers for movers and shakers.

There is nothing wrong with making a lot of money, and keeping it– minus taxes, of course.

Contributors to our society reap rewards commenserate with their value in the marketplace.

Deficit spending has a hard limit; it will have to stop when you cannot pay back in full. (We are too near that now for comfort.)

There is no such thing as a free lunch.

It isn’t a secret that corporate taxes are factored into the price to the customer, and the higher these taxes, the higher the price charged, and the less competitive the product is in the world market. So now we have an ever decreasing manufacturing sector and number of jobs, because to remain competitive we have shipped the manufacturing jobs overseas, mainly to China. They will not return.

The top 10% of tax payers today pay over 70% of the taxes: The bottom 40-50% pay nothing, so in a real sense the bottom half are not stakeholders but simply takers.

The free market is the most efficient way to control an economy, but it needs the right amount of regulation to ensure a level playing field and control of fraud and abuse, and this needs constant work to keep up.

This free market approach has been the best for our economy, including health care.

Environmental stewardship is an important objective for society, but we cannot wreck the economy to achieve unrealistic environmental goals, or we will only achieve a beautiful, clean, yet dirt poor, vulnerable and starving nation. Further, the world measures of clean air and water will continue to be negative until China and India, for two, make enormous strides in their lands.

The jobless rate is far closer to 16% to 18% than the carefully calculated 9.1%, because the government doesn’t count those who have stopped seeking non-existent jobs, and shouting out the true number would be politically rather bad for Obama.

Judicious tax cuts stimulate the economy via increased consumer spending and demand, which in turn sparks hiring, production of more supplies and thus the flow of wages and profits, and lo and behold, greater tax revenue. The deficit is reduced by the disciplined spending of less than the revenue income.

The chief characteristics of illegal immigrants is that they are here illegally and they work well for less than citizens demand.

If we pursue our main natural energy resources to the fullest we can become energy independent inside of 10 to 15 years, and that means coal, oil, nuclear and natural gas. By playing with solar, wind, and wave sources, but not the main sources, we will still be heavily dependent on imported oil from the ME after that same 10 to 15 years. We need to get cracking and fracking right now!

Utopian or collective societies fail because they are diametrically opposed to human nature, and you can’t change or homogenize human nature by edicts or at the point of a gun. You can, however, create a huge mound of bodies of misfits and a bare subsistence level for the majority of sullen and resentful citizens who live on the promise of nirvana in another five years, and another five years, and…. No thank you!

FDR Opinion on Government Unions

FDR Quote

“The process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service,” Roosevelt wrote in 1937 to the National Federation of Federal Employees. Yes, public workers may demand fair treatment, wrote Roosevelt. But, he wrote, “I want to emphasize my conviction that militant tactics have no place” in the public sector. “A strike of public employees manifests nothing less than an intent on their part to prevent or obstruct the operations of Government.”

Current Opinions

The Oil Spill---It is just that BP be made to cover the costs of the damage to our environment and our people along the coast that were truly impacted.

The Obama Problem---It is increasingly clear that our President is underperforming where it hurts the people and overperforming where it costs the nation. It will take a long time for the nation to recover from his misadventures and socialistic/Marxist ideas.

Iran---Israel will attack soon. If Iran responds by hitting the US too, we will be at war.

The Market---Virtually every one of the financial and market advisors I use predicts a major slump soon, and it will brng hard times to the nation. Take heed, and look to your money!

The Elections---I hope the predictions of a significant reshuffle from Dems to Repubs really does take place, but I worry that we have no strong leader to keep the weak, the flacid and the nuts in line.

Some Comments on the Day

Obamacare:  So it has almost made it into law, but with rearguard actions being initiated by both the GOP in Congress and by some 13 states to prevent it from becoming fully operative.  There is no question that some provisions of this overly expensive law are in my personal favor, but I see it as busting the nation in a matter of a few years as everyone flocks to the medical facilities for hangnails and cancer.  There must be a better way.

Israel:  I see the Obama crowd as picking fights with Israel from an excess of zeal for Palestinian ambitions.  It is playing with fire to insist on the stopping of building in the West Bank by Israel.  The time is drawing near when this will not matter as Israel will attack Iran in great force, and we will be pulled into the fight no matter what this silly President thinks our best interests are.

Oil:  After agreeing that we should exploit other forms of energy, such as solar, wind, wave, and bio, I must also say that we cannot bridge the gap between these resources and oil in just a few years.  Thus, we must continue to explore, drill and tap our own resources in oil for the coming decades, in my opinion.

Cap and Trade:  This silly dispensation trick should be stopped cold!

Amnesty:  Here we go again, voting against wishes of the majority of the people in order to gain votes for the Democrats.  The idea of Open Borders violates our sovereignty as a nation, and will lead to a very nasty transformation of our way of life.

Rant;  I note that in each of the above cases, the common thread is violation of the will of the people. If this kind of government is what you voted for, a pox on you for helping to destroy our country.

Decline of the Nation

Where I join the crowd that fears for the nation

I must agree with several pundits that the nation is not at all the same one that existed before, say, 1955. The idea of our original Constitutional government has been so watered down and abused that it is unrecognizable. The law has been so perverted now that the very principle of separation of powers is failing. Assaults on virtually every “settled practice” of law have made a mockery of real justice. Tenured clowns from the Left appear to man about 90% of the education jobs and professorships, and the curriculum of our schools is written by union members with dubious pedigrees, thus producing a few idiot savants along with a herd of noodnicks, much to the woe of our future. The congress has become bribery central and knows not of fiscal common sense. Our President has opted out of any rational foreign policy at all, and has managed to strengthen our foes in the process. We have decided to abandon the development of much of the military hardware that we will need in a decade or so from now. We have just about decided to give the UN more money and more inroads into our sovereignty. To make things even more dire, we have created debts that will be impossible to repay, and squandered the taxpayer’s money on leftist projects of little economic worth, while unemployment has topped 17% in real terms. The moral fiber of the nation has been corrupted and weakened to the point that things that were totally unacceptable in 1955 are quite accepted today: elective abortions, same sex marriage, hookups, teen sex, filthy language, and on and on…

This much is just for openers!

I agree also that the GOP would choke on this dinner, but then so would any party, witness who got us so very much further into this entire mess in this year of 2009. It is apparent to me that the medicine needed to correct these ills cannot and will not be forthcoming from any party, left or right, and that nihilism and hedonism will reign in our future.

Are we at the “tipping point” where our basic lives and our government’s structure have become impossible to change for the better? We are very close indeed now, and I fear for our beloved nation.

No one seems to address the problems and then the tough-love cures we must install, or, they bemoan the current situation yet offer no help whatsoever to dig us the hell out from our pauperism and nihilism, least of all the Left.

Comments on the Day

Some quick comments on the issues of the day:

Afghanistan:  At least there is something to this Obama plan--30,000 men!  I question the reasons for this surge, since it seems to be neither a thrust to win nor a signal of our leaving.  It is more like a delaying action, but with few concrete objectives to look for downstream.

Economy:  The unemployment keeps rising along with the debt, and the dollar keeps falling. Yet, this Administration is hell-bent on passing further expensive legislation.  We are in Wonderland!

Obamacare:  This 2,000 page monstrosity is being debated now.  It should be scrapped.  The government should bow out of a sixth of the economy and a certain trillion dollar or more addition to the debt.

Cap and Trade: Just to make things a bit more hairy, Obama and cronies are trying to pass this onerous bill that will increase the national debt while not curing the AGW fable one whit. It will, of course, make billionaires out of a few.

I shudder to think of what is next up in this wild world of liberal fantasies becoming true.

Hatred

I suggest that there are two kinds of hatred: the reasoned and the unreasoned. Most of the hatreds I have identified in myself are reasoned ones, and are usually based on quite a bit of research and analysis.  In this category I place my hatred (i.e. intense dislike) for liberals, communists, socialists, totalitarians of all stripes, and for Islam and Muslims. I do have some unreasoned hatreds, as do most of us, for example, hatred of spiders, bugs and snakes which I freely admit to harboring most intensely.

A good old reasoned hatred is a refreshing thing.  It clears the mind immensely, and allows one to focus upon the right and proper attitudes and actions that such hatreds cry out for. It also thumbs one's nose at political  correctness in a delicious manner!  Nancy Pelosi? I feel the hate! Obama! hot! Harry Reid? Total hate too!

To deconstruct the exact whys and wherefores of these hatreds would take me several books, and even then, I would have to leave out things of importance. It is sufficient for now to say that I intensely dislike their politics and their lack of morals, and I could back those dislikes up with evidence of their sins if I had to.  Besides, it allows me the luxury of simply not listening to their rants, raves, and solomn speeches that turn out to be real duds in the end, or total misrepresentations of facts (we call them lies where I come from.). That saves my blood pressure from spiking.

It is liberating to blank out the opposition in this way--they cannot sway me with their olive  branches and bribes.

Rightwords Birthday

Rightwords continues undeterred into year five!

The birthday of my blog scuttled by with nary a peep of recognition from me. The very first post was on February 7, 2005. If nothing else, I have been very consistent in my views since then, after I read some of them over again. You can see where the blog has not attracted many commentors at all, and only about six or seven thousand readers over the four years of its existence. I had little ambition for the blog to become a hotspot, since I can post less frequently than would be usual to maintain wide interest, I do have a somewhat restricted set of interests, and I did not elect to post on current news feeds at all.

The one thing I do miss, however, are commentors that take the time to challenge my thinking, and to engage me in debate on the issues, or to amplify on what I propose. The other day, I recorded what was perhaps the largest single day's visit count ever, which was 65, with not one comment. This paucity of responders is what leads me to seek other places to post my own comments, and then sometimes to backfill the posts here as well. Still, I did think that many of my opinions were of sufficient interest that they would draw intelligent fire from the opposition! Alas, that has not happened!

A Few Observations

Number 1: Caroline Kennedy is not fit for the job of senator, she only has her family name and family ties going for her. This will be a perfect measure of how the liberals will bend the world to their wishes should she be appointed.

Number 2: Blago may well be within his legal rights to appoint a senator to replace Obama. But, his timing is rather bad, and his choice has significant baggage, notably championing reparations for blacks.

Number 3: More power to the Israelis in their effort to rout Hamas from Gaza.

Obama Slip

Obama: "Let's not play games. I was suggesting - you're absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith."

Was this a gaffe or a slip of the tongue? A most important question.

Today----

A Few Comments

Stock Market—Best advice I have gotten is to hang on for the ride. There are no safe havens.

Campaigns--- Hillary versus McCain seems to be emerging as the contest. While I do not like what McCain has done lately, especially with regard to Illegals, he would be infinitely better than another Billary White House (This time they would gut the place.), and certainly better than a lightweight such as Obama—small change indeed. The length of this campaign is becoming a complete bore, with over exposure of rather weak candidates, and under exposure of strong ones.

Iraq--- Bringing five brigades home soon is a mistake. We need power in the area. The power we now have is working fairly well, so why take it away? Political interference with strategic thinking is my opinion.

Iran--- looks like my opinion is going to turn out wrong (no surprise there!). We seem to be on an accommodating path at the moment, rather than an attack. I had guessed February for an air attack. Is this the lull before the storm?

Issues for 2008

Who fits my prescription best?

Iraq:
Finish it off in victorious style.

Illegal Immigration: Control the borders; punish those who hire illegals; deport illegals.

Iran: Raise the pressure to the highest possible; if they don't cave in, go after them full force.
Enlarge the armed forces now.

Health Care: Deny universal, free health care. Solve the problem within free market rules; avoid setting up a huge new government bureaucracy.

GWOT: Pursue terrorists to their lairs: eliminate them and their hosts.

Draft: Let us increase the forces rapidly. If that means a draft, so be it.

Economy: Mandate a balanced budget and a line-item veto. Stop the spending rush.

Climate Change: Prepare for a warmer climate. Forget carbon offsets. Stop the panic.

Oil: Reward development of hydrogen power. Add nuclear power generation.

Taxes: Revert to a fixed percentage tax on all income for all residents.

Congressional Reforms: Mandate term limits and a ten-year block on lobbying by former members. Bar family positions for members' relatives. Deny contributions by industry.

MSM: Support truth organizations; classify media by their bias for the public.

Israel-Palestine: Support Israel.

Islam: Recognize Islam as dedicated threat the existence of all Judeo-Christian societies. Let us not kid around any longer about their threat.

Medicare and Social Security: Put them both on a sound financial basis; stop growth of benefits; stop expansion of coverage; use the power of the privatization of a percentage of each account.

Guns: Mandate that the 2nd amendment refers to the gun rights of each citizen and to their right to use weapons in self-defense and defense of their homes.

Abortion: Stop it for all but special medical cases.

Education: Return to the methods of yesteryear in teaching both facts and how to think, without the censorship that pervades our system today. Get the federal government out of education, and return it fully to the states.

Fred Wins

In that there is really no comparison!

The 2008 election is shaping up to be a Republican victory. With Hillary the candidate of the left, and Thompson the candidate from the right, it is a double whammy on the Democrats. Not only is Hillary one of the most despised women in America, she is a chameleon that hides her far left and feminist ideology in order to seek votes. Thompson, on the other hand, comes across as the father figure we would like to have in the leader's role, definitely not a feminist, smart, and conservative.

Abortion and Gay Rights Comments

A few comments for today

Abortion: When you abort a fetus, you erase all of the structural information the fetus cells contain that would have completed a human being in its growth cycle from conception to adulthood. That is surely murder.

There should be both a moral and a legal prohibition of that act, as well as social disgrace for the one who commits it. The GOP will surely lose voters if they fail on the abortion issue.

Gay Marriage: As I remember the situation, well over 60% of the total population of the US was in favor of banning gay marriage, as well as abortion, back in 2004. In fact, some 11 states passed negative provisions at that time regarding these issues, as I recall. Is someone claiming that these issues have now under 50% of the population’s support? Seems a stretch to me.

The GOP will likely stick to its guns here, don’t you think?

People, I seem to gather, like to watch porn, fornicate without penalty, play with the same sex, cheat on their income tax (if they pay anything at all), get money free from the government, or get free services such as medical care, schooling, college, home bailout loans, a job for life, a government retirement pension vested after 10 years, superb roads, rail and bus transport, zero smog, pure water, and jolly companions—also for life. But only if they don’t have to pay for it or work hard for it, or defend their nation for it.

They want someone to tell them that there is no global warming to worry about; it will be fixed by the government.

This is the script for a Democratic election campaign, and far too many voters will be taken in by it, sad to say. They will not read the fine print that says we need to raise taxes to do all of these wonderful things for you. That is because Dems will localize the raises to the well-to-do, the filthy rich, the robber barons of Wall Street, and those CEO’s that make mega millions, all of whom collectively now pay over 70% of all taxes.

When that starts a negative economy spiral, and layoffs, who will they blame? The Republicans, of course!

Katie Couric

CBS is leading the way downhill--ABC and NBC to follow!

Why do we need a female reader of the news? One who cannot seem to decide whether to smile or frown at the biased presentation she must read. Always a cute person, and she usually has a sunny disposition, she was a staple figure for years in DC, but never in any serious vein. Katie Couric as anchor for CBS news is simply not cutting it.

Iraq; Illegal Immigration Agreement

A few comments

Iraq

There is little reason to expect the surge to have a truly measurable effect by September of 07. Perhaps by September of 08 there will be good things to report, but the surge has not even been completed. My thinking now is that the President is playing possum, and has his eyes on Iran.

Illegal Immigration Agreement

What I have read so far seems to be a reasonable agreement, but I will await the full text before I deliver a definitive opinion. There seems to be more to the idea of Z Cards than mere amnesty. But I need to see the full text. I also wonder what will happen when a majority of Illegals stay away from applying for legal status.

Today in America

Comments on the 20th

Virginia is in mourning over the loss of VT students to a crazed man. That man should have been in an institution years ago, not roaming free.

The weather has turned warm and sunny again, just in time for planting and sprucing up for spring shows.

Reid has declared the war in Iraq to be lost. Reid is a joke. He, too, should be in an institution where the sun don't shine.

There are good signs from Iraq that the surge is having a positive effect, while the Democrats are waging war against it all. What happened to grit and determination? Lost too!

I hope the Hate Crimes bill never sees the floor. It is an abomination, and a violation of the Constitution, in my opinion. Besides, I will still have my hates and I will act on them where possible. When a hateful look is prosecuted you will know just how far we have drifted away from American values of privacy, free speech, and individualism.

It was heartening to see that Hillary has dived in the current polls, but that may help even worse choices to be selected. Such as Gore, the great internet inventor and global warming dictator-to-be. Just how many Leftwing nuts are running now? Six or Seven? Oh, let’s have a former madras kid in office! Just the ticket!

Does anyone doubt that quite a number of Muslims in America would respond with alacrity and dispatch to a call from Iran to blow things up here? Perhaps they are waiting for the Democrats to disarm the public so we cannot defend ourselves! Won’t happen; I will hide my weapons and to hell with them.
