Blogging in 2010

Subjects of My Concern for 2010

These subjects will be my main blogging interests for 2010, in no special order. There are a few changes from 2009, but the essential topics are largely intact. I removed Media Bias since others are addressing this topic with expertise, but it can pop up anywhere: on the list or off!

• Financial Crisis and Jobs
• Environmentalism and the Climate Change Hoaxes
• Conservatism---the way forward
• Elections 2010—getting our people elected
• Liberalism and its Follies Under Obama and the Terrible Duo
• Islamic Fascism, Subversion, and the Global War on Terror
• Constitutionalism, Government Reform,
• Military Affairs and the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; Iran
• Secular Humanism, Internationalism
• UN follies (and possible alternatives)
• Illegal immigration (“Illegals”) and the defeat of amnesty when it appears again
• Fair Taxation ---and its kin, the Flat Tax; the real danger is adding VAT to this mix!
• Energy Efforts---Oil drilling, solar power, wind power, clean coal.
• Globalization and its difficulties.
• Education, especially how to remove the Federal Government from it, and improve results.
• Gun Rights---defending the right for citizens to keep and use arms and ammunition.
• Crime and Corruption, both white and blue collar!
• Health Care—if Obamacare wins, what then? What is the impact on this senior citizen?
• Morality Issues: Abortion (RvW), Same Sex Marriage, Drugs
• Foreign Affairs
• Free Markets and Regulation
• Catastrophes around the world
• Philosophy---refinement and publication of my screed.

(Pseudo)Anonymous Blogging and Commenting

It is an abomination to out anyone--blogger or commenter!

First, you comment on some matter, however free of nastiness, and the blogger decides he doesn’t like the comment.

So, second, he sends sleeze back in his usual way, and that angers the commenter.
Retorts fly back and forth, until the blogger decides to out the commenter, and publish his real name.

Third, with this name, and a few other hints, any creep or pervert on the internet can find your home address, and begin harassment, or worse, on the net, through the mails, by telephone, or even in person. Some creeps that object to the comment think they are avenging a wrong, or are simply evil. If you live in a city, the likelihood of 25-50 creeps or perverts living nearby is very high, and it only takes one of them on the net to make home life miserable.

Such revolting activities are unacceptable, and threaten the home and family. All because of some comment that was objected to by the blogger. Anyone that does do that, and threatens the home life, should be barred from all sites possible.

Note that it isn’t the outer that is necessarily the danger–think about it!

The old phrase: "The names have been changed to protect the innocent!" is applicable.

Rightwords Birthday

Rightwords continues undeterred into year five!

The birthday of my blog scuttled by with nary a peep of recognition from me. The very first post was on February 7, 2005. If nothing else, I have been very consistent in my views since then, after I read some of them over again. You can see where the blog has not attracted many commentors at all, and only about six or seven thousand readers over the four years of its existence. I had little ambition for the blog to become a hotspot, since I can post less frequently than would be usual to maintain wide interest, I do have a somewhat restricted set of interests, and I did not elect to post on current news feeds at all.

The one thing I do miss, however, are commentors that take the time to challenge my thinking, and to engage me in debate on the issues, or to amplify on what I propose. The other day, I recorded what was perhaps the largest single day's visit count ever, which was 65, with not one comment. This paucity of responders is what leads me to seek other places to post my own comments, and then sometimes to backfill the posts here as well. Still, I did think that many of my opinions were of sufficient interest that they would draw intelligent fire from the opposition! Alas, that has not happened!

Blogging for a Reason

A place to vent; a place to inform; a place to record.

It is a good thing that I had no ambitions for this blog, for it gets scant attention in a week. So why do it? Simple. I love to write down my opinions because it satisfies some inner sense of needing to ventilate what I think and feel with some precision. Blogging forces this discipline. Then too, quite often my opinions are that of the majority of Conservatives, so I am adding my wee voice to the general outcries we project for sanity, reason, and tradition. Further, it is a good way to record my occasional opinions and philosophies for future use, such as for the development of my philosophy statement.

I have not tried the various mechanisms for expanding my readership for several reasons. First, I do not want the blog to garner too much attention (no fear here!); second, I know that at least half the blog readers are leftist, which means nothing but ad hominem attacks, and zero probability of changing minds; third, another major segment of possible readers is already in my camp, so I am preaching to the choir (imperfectly and not very originally) which makes my comments quite redundant; and, finally, the so-called independents will also not be swayed by my rhetoric, I am sure--they have this streak of contrariness that they must defend, else their amoral stance will not survive. One can persuade by logic, but cannot overcome emotional attachment to ideas.

One more factor is that I treat what I want to treat, when I want to sit here typing, and do not want to be in the mode of reacting to every event in the news worth commenting upon. So I do not post regularly at all by choice. Blogs that I admire do post every day, or almost every day, and the successful ones in terms of hits make hits a religion, and many topics are selected as much for their challenge to readers to respond as is their intrinsic worth.

So that's how it is!
