Vote Romney

Preach common sense to your family!

The presidency must not be a popularity contest as opposed to a competency contest for the job of running the nation. I believe Obama has proven his incompetency and Romney has proven his competency, plus Romney is a moderate Republican, which trumps everything else.

We do need some serious leadership to wrest the nation from the clutches of liberals and their whacky and communistic compatriots–the progressives. We need someone willing to torch just about every Obama Executive Order, and fire or otherwise neutralize every appointed leftist in government, while turning over and making sense out of Obamacare, taxation, foreign policy, environmentalism, defense, homeland security, the CIA, the attorney general position and a clump of hangers-on, and whatever else Obama has tainted with his incompetency. All of it has to go.

Invention

Where do our next economic booms come from?

The wealth-drivers we have gone through are legend: roads; rail; bridges; tunnels; air transport; automobiles; trucks; communications; publications; radio; movies; TV; Internet; energy (coal, oil, and hydroelectric power and their distribution); shipping; defense weapons, aircraft, ships and vehicles; space exploration; satellites; agriculture (food production and distribution); restaurants superhighways, super tunnels and long bridges; real estate (land development, homes, and buildings); merchandising; insurance; finance; banking; stock markets; sports; cosmetics; and sundry others. The question is what will the new drivers be if we are to break out of the doldrums we seem to be caught up in?

Obviously, there is a lot that could be done to ensure all of the drivers we have now are renewed and remain productive, but new drivers will be needed to spark yet another round of economic growth. What inventions are on the horizon that may fill this need real soon now?

My dream list includes: far better battery technology for electric cars, and other applications; small, inexpensive and safe nuclear power units suitable for railroad engines, the neighborhood or office, or even the home; clean coal power units; adapting roads to automated driving, together with the sensors and controls for vehicles; new building materials for home and office that offer ease and speed of construction, strength and imperviousness to the weather, as well as adaptability to a wide range of arcihitectures; road-building materials and processes that are superior to any current methods for durability, speed of laying, cost and smoothness, particularly where cut and fill is not a serious problem; clothing materials that improve on cotton, wool, nylon and similar fabric for durability, comfort, cost, color and style; far better diagnostic tools, and medicines for the ill that have a higher cure rate for all of our afflictions; and the introduction of superior teaching methods, materials and, yes, qualified teachers, at an accelerating rate throughout our education system.

There are undoubtedly many more drivers out there than I have suggested here that will spur us on in the future, quite largely independent of politics. What are they?

Islamists in America

If a US Muslim gives his full allegiance to Allah and the Islamic Leadership based on the Koran, Haddith, Jihad and Sharia Law, and gives merely a token allegiance to this nation in order to benefit himself and his family with the freedoms, liberty, economics and social opportunities found in the US, and if he raises his family in the same Islamic belief system, I suggest that he and his progeny are eventually a potential threat to the nation.

If the recorded 4.3 million Muslims in the US harbor as a guess merely 1% of their fellows that are truly fanatical Islamic Jihadists, we have a serious and blind or hidden problem of 43,000 potential terrorists in the nation. That is a significant sleeper 5th column. Blind, because we simply cannot watch and control so many potential terrorists. We must wait until they act, and suffer the consequences. If, however, the percentage is a lot higher, the problem becomes much, much worse. Who knows the reality? Of course, the majority of US Muslims are productive, law abiding, and good citizens, as Abedin most likely is.

Our religious freedom law is not a suicide pact, however, but it seems as if we are treating it as one, since many sects of Islam, such as the Muslim Brotherhood and Wahabbi, vow to eradicate the infidel and work to establish a new Islamic Caliphate when the time is right and the conditions are favorable. This may well not be for many years until their power, high birthrate numbers and influence grow sufficiently here in the US. We see this slow and steady accretion of power in the UK and Europe right now, and it has made real progress in the last few years.

Rather than sweeping this problem under the rug of religious freedom to our eventual regret, I suggest that it should be faced directly now: the question then is: How? I see no acceptable answer– none at all. I suggest that no FBI investigation or security clearance investigation or even an oath of allegiance would discover many of these people in our midst. We are eventually at risk of being conquered by the leveraging of our own law: failure to recognize and act on the peril.

Perhaps if we ignore the problem, it will go away. But that is not the American way, is it? Perhaps our collective conscience will gradually realize what is going on, and take whatever corrective action is needed to preserve our way of life. With this gradualism, though, it is all but inevitable that more of us will lose their lives to terrorist actions than otherwise, but I see no way to avoid it.

Intellectual Elites: Bad News

Hijacking Common Sense

Elites, like the poor, shall always be with us. As Thomas Sowell asserts in “Intellectuals and Society”, a majority, as I remember it, of the really difficult problems in the nation have been fostered by the intellectual elites. They should, in his opinion, be nowhere near the levers of power and influence. Public intellectuals, he goes on to say, those who come out from their sphere of expertise to deliver their wisdom on subjects far and wide, are especially dangerous and irresponsible, for they usually assume absolutely no responsibility for their ideas when they are taken into practice and then fail, but rather, they move on rapidly to the next hairbrained, cerebral popcorn idea immediately. Does Noam Chomsky ring any bells?

The Obama Record of Facts

I am reprinting this article by John Hawkins that I copied from the blog Townhall, July 10, 2012, because I believe it summarizes Obama's failures quite well.

"15 Facts That Even Obama's Biggest Supporters Should Be Able To Admit Are True

By John Hawkins

5/18/2012

"Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts." -- Daniel Patrick Moynihan

Conservatives and liberals may disagree on reasons, motivations, and excuses for Barack Obama's performance, but the facts are still facts. There may be many reasons that a pro football coach goes 1-15, but everyone can agree that his record is still 1-15, right? Well, here are some basic facts about how the country is faring with Barack Obama in the White House. Take a look at the numbers, sans commentary, and make your own judgment about whether Barack Obama deserves another term in office.

1) Real median household income is down $4300 since Obama took office.

2) The percentage of unemployed workers who've been out of a job for more than a year is over 30%.

3) The country has had the longest streak of +8% unemployment since the Depression under Obama: 39 months and counting.

4) In 2011 under Barack Obama, nearly one out of every seven Americans was on food stamps. That's a 70 percent increase from 2007.

5) Fifty percent of new college graduates are underemployed or unemployed.

6) U.S. home ownership is at a decade long low. So is the number of Americans who say their home is worth more than they paid for it. Home prices are the lowest they've been since 2002.

7) Barack Obama ended NASA's manned space program.

8) Going into this election cycle, Barack Obama had raised more money from Wall Street than any President in history. He has also raised more money from Wall Street than all of the GOP presidential contenders combined in this election cycle.

9) Under Barack Obama's leadership, the last time Harry Reid and the Senate Democrats passed a budget was April 9, 2009.

10) Barack Obama's budget was defeated 414-0 in the House and 99-0 in the Senate.

11) When he was running for President in 2008, Barack Obama pledged not to raise taxes on families making less than 250,000 dollars per year. He broke that promise with the tanning salon tax and with Obamacare, which raises almost 500 billion dollars in new taxes, a significant portion of which would be paid by people making less than 250,000 dollars per year.

12) When Barack Obama took office, gas was $1.95 per gallon. Today gas is $3.72 per gallon.

13) In February of this year, the federal government had a 229 billion dollar deficit. That was the largest deficit in the history of the United States.

14) America lost its AAA credit rating (which it had held since 1917) on Obama's watch despite the fact that Timothy Geithner publicly said there was "no risk" of that happening.

15) Barack Obama added more to the debt in just 38 months than George Bush did in two full terms as President."

Why Obamacare?

Healthcare Provisions and Notes

The Task I set myself was to try to identify the majority of health insurance coverage considerations that sparked Medicare, Medicaid, and now Obamacare. My next step is to attempt to find the equivalent provisions in Obamacare itself. What this taught me was just how complex an issue this is, and why the Obama solution went completely overboard in setting up for administrating the nightmare. None of my items are meant to be solutions as such, but merely identification of the subjects of concern. The other thing I learned was that loading the primary doctors with many difficult decisions, some being life or death, is not necessarily a good idea. But, then, I have no solutions for the overload problem either, and I detest the idea of health boards or death boards that have the power of life or death over us.

So here is my tentative list of subjects and possible provisions:

1. Tort reform

2. Defined ER care covered

3. Affordable health care insurance costs

4. Defined coverage of major health crises

5. Co-pay up front

6. Defined diagnostic and preventive care medical tests covered

7. Defined hospital stays covered

8. Defined list of medical supplies, prosthetic and mobility apparatus covered

9. Defined list of procedures covered

10. Defined list of prescription medications covered-- with no gap

11. Defined list of illnesses covered, including mental illnesses

12. Defined provisions for treatment during pandemics covered

13. No previous conditions can prevent insurance coverage

14. Defined rehabilitation costs covered

15. Defined surgery operating room costs covered

16. Defined doctor and surgeon costs covered

18. Defined life support costs covered

19. Defined organ replacement costs covered

20. Defined medical transportation costs covered

21. Defined nursing care covered

22. Defined home nursing care and home checkups covered

23. Defined long-term care covered

24. Exceptions to the rules and provision for unusual and unplanned medical events to be allowed by doctors and others on a case-by-case basis.

25. Review and possible adjustment on a yearly basis for all provisions.

26. Healthcare for veterans from our wars should be equal to or better than that of ordinary citizens, and should be geared towards the war wounds, accidental wounds and the illnesses that veterans have experienced during their service time. (Responsibility here is for the VA)

27. Patients should be able to select their own doctors if they are within the Medicare system

28. There should be no need for referrals to access specialists.

29. Insurance coverage should not be arbitrarily stopped to avoid high costs of coverage.

NOTES

It turns out that all of these provisions require informed debate, setting of defined elements and setting of fair bounds in time and cost by both medical insurance organizations, employers and all levels of government involved.

Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid do contribute to just about all of these provisions up to defined limits. The problem is those limits often leave the patient with very large bills to pay, even forcing bankruptcy in some cases. Current insurers also have coverage of most of these provisions that come into play once the government schedules are exhausted.

The federal government often uses regional economic conditions to determine their level of support to citizens residing in the region.

The general goals might be: a) to avoid patients becoming destitute from medical costs; 2) to use humane decisions about medical care across the board; 3) to improve the quality of life for all citizens as economically as possible; and, 4) to utilize free market principles wherever possible in organizing all of the care provisions.

The sources of payment include: 1) patient; 2) patient insurance; 3) government; 4) Charity from various sources, including the hospital and doctors themselves.

All citizens and visitors to the US, including illegal immigrants, should pay towards their healthcare, just as most do now under Medicare/Medicaid/Social Security.

Ability-to-pay determination is a highly controversial subject that requires significant expertise and data.

Termination-of-life decisions must not be left to doctors alone, and must conform to the patient’s own wishes, or his representative’s wishes. There must be no death boards.

Very important aspects of healthcare costs are the fees that doctors and hospitals collect for their services, and the limits placed on them by Medicare, hospitals and insurance companies. The question is what can be done to bring these costs down?

Free care at hospital ER facilities is a huge issue. What can be done to limit this exposure that raises costs for everyone else?

A national identity card that contains each individual’s picture, ID data and medical records, including prescription drugs, may be instituted.

July 4th, 2012 Independence Day

The Top of the Waves of History

There should be many soaring speeches this day, blessing this nation of ours, and leading us on to revere our forefathers, and our Constitution. There should be marvellous fireworks displays over the Potomac River, celebrating our great fortune to be born and raised in this wonderful and free land. We should remember those who fought and died for this country: their memorials are close at hand around the Mall, dominated by the monument to George Washington, our first and greatest general and leader. We should be exhorted to rise up as the resourceful people we are and help put this exceptional nation back where she should be, throwing off the yoke of failure that has brought us to our knees, to once again be riding the top of the waves of history every day. Most of all, we should thank God for His blessings of our homeland.
 Amen
